Notion has integrated an open-weight model from Chinese artificial intelligence company MiniMax into its platform, marking the first time such a model has been made available alongside leading proprietary systems.
On March 2, Notion co-founder Akshay Kothari announced that MiniMax’s M2.5 model is now accessible as an experimental feature within Notion Custom Agents.
The MiniMax M2.5 is listed independently in the model selection menu with the distinct label of an “open-weight model,” positioned alongside proprietary models from the GPT and Claude series. Kothari emphasized the cost advantage of the offering, stating that for simple tasks, the usage cost of M2.5 is significantly lower than other closed-source models.
The integration follows MiniMax’s recent announcement that its February 2026 Annual Recurring Revenue surpassed $150 million, driven by surging demand for its M2.5 model. The company has formally pivoted its strategy to evolve from a large model developer into an “AI platform company.”
