On the afternoon of January 21st, Lei Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, reposted a Weibo post by Li Xiaoshuang, Vice President of Xiaomi Auto, stating that the delivery volume of Xiaomi SU7 exceeded that of Tesla Model 3 last month.
The electric sedan sales chart posted by Li Xiaoshuang shows that in December 2024, Xiaomi SU7 sold 25,815 units, ranking fifth, while Tesla Model 3 sold 21,046 units, ranking sixth. The top three models were BYD Seagull, Wuling Hongguang MINIEV, and Wuling Binyue. Xiaomi SU7, the first model launched by Xiaomi Group after entering the automotive sector, was launched at the end of March last year and officially began deliveries the following month. The standard version of the car is priced at 215,900 yuan, the Pro version at 245,900 yuan, and the Max version at 299,900 yuan.
In the middle of the second month after delivery, Xiaomi SU7 completed the delivery of its 10,000th new car. In just one year, with only the Xiaomi SU7 model, Xiaomi Auto delivered over 130,000 vehicles, exceeding its initial annual target. For 2025, Xiaomi Auto has set a delivery target of 300,000 vehicles.
Following the Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi’s second model is an electric SUV, which has already been listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s new vehicle directory at the end of last year and is named Xiaomi YU7. Lei Jun previously stated that Xiaomi YU7 is currently undergoing large-scale road testing and is expected to be officially launched in June or July this year.
The Tesla Model 3 was first launched in 2016 and has been a mainstay model in Tesla’s sales. At the end of 2019, Tesla delivered the first domestically produced Model 3 at its Shanghai Lingang Gigafactory. On September 1, 2023, the Tesla China website showed that the refreshed Model 3 was officially launched, marking the first update of the Model 3 in six years, with the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 refreshed version starting at 259,900 yuan. Lei Jun once compared Xiaomi SU7 with Tesla Model 3 at the Xiaomi Auto launch event. The sun protection test results he presented showed that after 1.5 hours of exposure at 38°C, the interior temperature of Xiaomi SU7 was 12°C lower than that of the refreshed Tesla Model 3.
When the new Tesla Model Y was recently launched and pre-sales began, Tesla’s official WeChat account published an article titled “Refreshed Model Y, Feel Free to Compare.” Subsequently, Lei Jun reposted this article on a social platform with the comment, “Good.”
