On February 14, BYD’s A-share price surged to a historic peak during intraday trading, marking a milestone for the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant. Over the past eight trading sessions, BYD’s stock rallied approximately 25%, propelling its market capitalization back above the trillion-yuan threshold. As of the latest update, BYD’s shares closed at 358.61 yuan, with its total market value reaching 1.04 trillion yuan.
Analysts attribute the stock surge to BYD’s newly unveiled “National Intelligent Driving Strategy”, announced at a high-profile smart technology event on February 10. The company launched 21 intelligent driving-enabled models, slashing the entry price for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) from the industry-standard 200,000 yuan range to an unprecedented 70,000 yuan tier. Notably, the BYD Seagull (Haiou), priced at 78,800 yuan, has emerged as a disruptor in the affordable EV segment, offering features such as highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) and automated parking—previously exclusive to premium models.
Wang Chuanfu, Chairman of BYD, declared during the event that 2025 will mark the “first year of intelligent driving popularization”, predicting that ADAS technologies will become as ubiquitous as seatbelts or airbags within the next 2–3 years. This vision aligns with BYD’s aggressive push to democratize smart driving capabilities across its product lineup.
BYD’s robust sales momentum further underscores its market dominance. In 2024, the automaker delivered approximately 4.27 million vehicles globally, a 41.26% year-on-year increase. January 2025 saw continued growth, with sales reaching 300,000 units (+49.16% YoY), capturing a 33.7% share of China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
Research institutions remain bullish on BYD’s technological roadmap. A Kaiyuan Securities report highlighted that the company’s “Divine Eye” ADAS platform—initially deployed in premium models—is expected to penetrate mass-market segments, attracting broader consumer adoption. Minsheng Securities forecasts that by 2025, over 60% of BYD’s models will feature high-level autonomous driving systems, significantly enhancing its competitive edge.
Beyond domestic success, BYD’s overseas expansion is fueling growth. In 2024, the company sold 417,000 NEVs in international markets, up 71.9% year-on-year, cementing its position as a global EV leader.
With its disruptive pricing strategy, technological innovation, and relentless global expansion, BYD is poised to reshape the automotive industry’s transition to intelligent, electrified mobility.
